A) Microwave Ovens (Are they safe?)

Radiation Ovens - The Proven Dangers Of Microwaves
By Anthony Wayne and Lawrence Newell

Is it possible that millions of people are ignorantly sacrificing their health in exchange for the convenience of microwave ovens? Why did the Soviet Union ban the use of microwave ovens in 1976? Who invented microwave ovens, and why? The answers to these questions may shock you into throwing your microwave oven in the trash.

Over 90% of American homes have microwave ovens used for meal preparation. Because microwave ovens are so convenient and energy efficient, as compared to conventional ovens, very few homes or restaurants are without them. In general, people believe that whatever a microwave oven does to foods cooked in it doesn't have any negative effect on either the food or them. Of course, if microwave ovens were really harmful, our government would never allow them on the market, would they? Would they? Regardless of what has been "officially" released concerning microwave ovens, we have personally stopped using ours based on the research facts outlined in this article.

The purpose of this report is to show proof -- evidence -- that microwave cooking is not natural, nor healthy, and is far more dangerous to the human body than anyone could imagine. However, the microwave oven manufacturers, Washington City politics, and plain old human nature are suppressing the facts and evidence. Because of this, people are continuing to microwave their food -- in blissful ignorance -- without knowing the effects and danger of doing so. . . . .

TEN REASONS TO THROW OUT YOUR MICROWAVE OVEN

From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens. Based on this research, we will conclude this article with the following:

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term -- permanent -- brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].

2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.

4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.

5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.

7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.

8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.

9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.

10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

B) TALC: Questions and Answers

Q. What is talc?

A. Talc is a mineral, produced by the mining of talc rocks and then processed by crushing, drying and milling. Processing eliminates a number of trace minerals from the talc, but does not separate minute fibers which are very similar to asbestos.

Q. What kinds of consumer products contain talc?

A. Talc is found in a wide variety of consumer products ranging from home and garden pesticides to antacids. However, the products most widely used and that pose the most serious health risks are body powders Talc is the main ingredient in baby powder, medicated powders, perfumed powders and designer perfumed body powders. Because talc is resistant to moisture, it is also used by the pharmaceutical industry to manufacture medications and is a listed ingredient of some antacids. Talc is the principal ingredient home and garden pesticides and flea and tick powders. Talc is used in smaller quantities in deodorants, chalk, crayons, textiles, soap, insulating materials, paints, asphalt filler, paper, and in food processing.

Q. Why is talc harmful?

A. Talc is closely related to the potent carcinogen asbestos. Talc particles have been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs of cancer victims. For the last 30 years, scientists have closely scrutinized talc particles and found dangerous similarities to asbestos. Responding to this evidence in 1973, the FDA drafted a resolution that would limit the amount of asbestos-like fibers in cosmetic grade talc. However, no ruling has ever been made and today, cosmetic grade talc remains non-regulated by the federal government. This inaction ignores a 1993 National Toxicology Program report which found that cosmetic grade talc, without any asbestos-like fibers, caused tumors in animal subjects. 1 Clearly with or without asbestos-like fibers, cosmetic grade talcum powder is a carcinogen .

Q. What kind of exposure is dangerous?

A. Talc is toxic. Talc particles cause tumors in human ovaries and lungs. Numerous studies have shown a strong link between frequent use of talc in the female genital area and ovarian cancer. Talc particles are able to move through the reproductive system and become imbedded in the lining of the ovary. Researchers have found talc particles in ovarian tumors and have found that women with ovarian cancer have used talcum powder in their genital area more frequently than healthy women. 2 Talc poses a health risk when exposed to the lungs. Talc miners have shown higher rates of lung cancer and other respiratory illnesses from exposure to industrial grade talc, which contains dangerous silica and asbestos. The common household hazard posed by talc is inhalation of baby powder by infants. Since the early 1980s, records show that several thousand infants each year have died or become seriously ill following accidental inhalation of baby powder. 3

Q. What about infants?

A. Talc is used on babies because it absorbs unpleasant moisture. Clearly, dusting with talcum powder endangers an infant's lungs at the prospect of inhalation. Exposing children to this carcinogen is unnecessary and dangerous.

HERE ARE THREE THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO:

1. Do not buy or use products containing talc. It is especially important that women not apply talc to underwear or sanitary pads.

2. Contact your pediatrician and/or local hospital and find out if they have a policy regarding talc use and infants.

3. Write to the FDA and express your concern that a proven carcinogen has remained unregulated while millions of people is unknowingly exposed.

1) "Optimism is Associated With Mood, Coping, and Immune Change in Response to Stress," Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Volume 74, Number 6, June 1998. Suzanne C. Segerstrom, Ph.D., et al.,

This study polled healthy first-year law students at the beginning of the school year to find out how optimistic they felt about the upcoming year. By the middle of the first semester, the students who had been confident that they would do well had more and better functioning immune cells than the worried students.

2) Research Suggests Optimistic Attitude Can Reduce Risk of Heart Disease in Older Men

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, November 21, 2001

Boston, MA – Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs have linked a more optimistic outlook in older men with a dramatically reduced risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). The study examined the effects of an optimistic versus pessimistic way of explaining events on the incidence of heart attack, angina and fatal CHD among older men, it appears in the November/December issue of Psychosomatic Medicine, for more information visit www.psychosomatic.org

E)  Studies on Belief in God reducing stress

1) "The Unique Benefits of Religious Support During Cardiac Bypass Surgery," The Journal of Pastoral Care 1999; 53(1): 19-29. Larry VandeCreek, Kenneth Pargament, Timothy Belavich, Brenda Cowell, and Lisa Friedel

Studies of patients have found religious coping can enhance recovery from surgery, the researchers noted. A study of more than 230 heart surgery patients at Dartmouth found that six months after surgery, 12 percent of those who rarely or never went to church had died whereas all of those who saw themselves as deeply religious and derived strength or comfort from their faith were still living.

2) "Lack of Social Participation or Religious Strength and Comfort as Risk Factors for Death after Cardiac Surgery in the Elderly." Psychosomatic Medicine 1995; 57(1): 5-15. T.E. Oxman, D.H. Freeman, E.D. Manheimer,

A study of 232 patients at Dartmouth Medical School found that elderly heart patients were 14 times less likely to die following surgery if they found strength and comfort in their religious faith and remained socially involved.

3) "The Relationship Between Religious Activities and Blood Pressure in Older Adults." International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine 1998; 28(2): 189-213. H.G. Koenig, et al.

Risk of diastolic hypertension ranked 40 percent lower among people who both attended religious services at least once a week and prayed or studied the Bible at least daily, Duke University researchers found in a study of nearly 4,000 people aged 65 years and older. These findings remained even after taking into account age, gender, race, education and other clinical factors that could affect blood pressure outcomes.

4) "Attendance at Religious Services, Interleukin-6, and Other Biological Parameters of Immune Function in Older Adults." International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine 1997; 27(3): 233-250. Koenig, H.K., et al.

A pioneering study of more than 1,700 older adults from North Carolina conducted by researchers at Duke University Medical Center found that persons who attended church at least once a week were only half as likely as non-attenders to have elevated levels of interleukin-6, an immune system protein involved in a wide variety of age related diseases.

5) "Religiosity and Remission of Depression in Medically Ill Older Patients." American Journal of Psychiatry 1998; 155(4): 536-542. H.G. Koenig, L.K. George, B.L Peterson

In a study of 87 depressed older adults hospitalized with medical illness, researchers at Duke University found the extent to which a patient's religious faith was a central motivating force in their lives, the faster they recovered from depression.

6) "Use of Hospital Services, Religious Attendance, and Religious Affiliation." Southern Medical Journal 1998; 91(10): 925-932. H.G. Koenig, D.B. Larson,

In a study of 542 patients aged 60 or older admitted consecutively to Duke University Medical Center, those who attended religious services weekly or more sliced hospital stays by more than half. People with no religious affiliation spent an average of 25 days in the hospital compared to 11 days for patients affiliated with some religious denomination. Patients who attended religious services weekly or more also were 43 percent less likely to have been hospitalized in the previous year.

7) "Frequent Attendance at Religious Services and Mortality over 28 Years." American Journal of Public Health 1997; 87(6): 957-961. W.J. Strawbridge, et al.

In a study that followed persons from a community for over 28 years, those who attended religious services weekly or more were 25 percent less likely to die than infrequent attenders. Not only were frequent attendees likely to live longer, once they began to attend church they also made healthier lifestyle choices, becoming more apt to quit smoking, to increase exercising, to expand their social support network and to stay married, noted the authors of this study of 5,286 people in Alameda County, California. Thus, these health-enhancing behaviors of the religiously motivated seemed to contribute, at least in part, to their lower death rates.

8) "Religion and Mortality Among the Community-Dwelling Elderly." American Journal of Public Health 1998; 88(10): 1469-1475. D. Oman, D. Reed,

Attending worship services on a regular basis was an important factor in predicting longevity in a study of 2,025 senior citizens living in Marin County, California. A range of other factors that might have contributed to health and living longer were taken into account, but attending religious services was found to be the most importance predictive account.

9) "Religious Involvement and U.S. Adult Mortality." Demography 1999; 36(2): 1-13. R.A. Hummer, R.G. Rogers, C. B. Nam C.G. Ellison,

Attending religious services more than once a week can expand one's life up to seven years and added a potential 14 more years to the life span of African Americans. Tracking a national sample of more than 21,000 U.S. adults, a 1999 study published in Demography examined numerous social, economic and health and lifestyle factors, as well as frequency of religious attendance, to see who was most likely to avoid death by any cause during the nine-year follow-up study period. Religious attendance surfaced as a strong predictor for living longer, even when other relevant clinical or social factors were taken into account.
